Spirituality can be described as the way we understand our lives and search for meaning in the bigger sacred context. Across the world all those who live by the spirit of Edmund Rice have some sense of God's presence within everything and everyone especially those who are suffering. This sense informs all our work but some Centres and Teams work in a more focused way to accompany people, especially young people, in their spiritual search.

This work of spiritual accompaniment is growing within our Network and takes many forms. There are residential centres such as Emmaus Retreat Centre, (Dublin), Mulgoa Retreat Centre, (Sydney) and Edmund Rice Centre , (Melbourne). These centres run retreat experiences for young people as well a variety of other spirituality events. The International Spirituality Centre, Lusaka, Zambia runs retreats and spirituality events.

Some smaller centres, such as Glenburn (near Melbourne), Brun-na-Cruinna (Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland), The Archer (near Brisbane) and Mt Abu (India), focus on eco-spirituality and the spirituality emerging from the new cosmology. The Lantern Centre (Dublin) is for interfaith / intercultural dialogue.

In the European Province five New Life in Mission communities of Brothers have as their focus sharing the spiritual search with others as they respond to the emergence of a new consciousness in the world.

Each province is currently putting in place its own Province Renewal Team. The challenge for this team is to facilitate a growth in spirituality within the Network. This is accomplished by running retreats, workshops and immersion experiences. Among  young and old there is a growing thirst  to discover new ways of  expressing faith.

The Lantern Centre for Interfaith / Intercultural Dialogue
In recent years Ireland has experienced a large influx of immigrant families, leading to a significant change in the level of cultural diversity in Irish society. The Lantern Centre at Synge Street, Dublin was founded to manage the opportunities for learning and change which this situation presented. The centre provides a meeting place for people from a variety of religious faiths, cultures and social groups in a context of welcome and dialogue.

New Life in Mission
Communities of Brothers are learning to share their spiritual search with others as they respond to the emergence of a new consciousness in the world.
They will share what they live in their work. Central to their life and task together is the building of community and the search for new expressions of mission to share the spiritual search in the twenty first century. From these beginnings may spring new forms of religious living and new experiences of networking within the Edmund Rice Network. There are five New Life in Mission communities located in Cabra, Carrick-on-Suir, Portlaoise, Belfast and Liverpool.
