In April, the final version of the Proposition for A Way into the Future was formally accepted by the Congregation Leadership Team of the Christian Brothers. There were significant changes made, arising from the feedback received from Brothers across the Congregation. The CLT is most grateful for those many Brothers who made comments and suggestions. Not every suggestion is reflected in a change, but all are noted and will provide material for the Transition Support Team later this year.

The Proposition

We have a sense of reaching a milestone on the journey and that the Spirit is with us.

So we now no longer have 'a Proposition’ but a series of working documents to take forward the A Way into the Future process.

Validations

We also made significant changes to the Validations which describe in more detail each paragraph of the new plan. We encourage Brothers to take time to continue reading these two updated documents.

The Message

The third document which is important is  “The Message” by Philip Pinto which remains unchanged. This describes the spiritual underpinning for the whole process of A Way into the Future without which it could be a business restructuring operation. It is a journey of the Spirit towards a new form of Brotherhood. - click to download

Now the focus is on forming a Transition Support Team to implement A Way into the Future. More about that in the next bulletin…

The Christian Brothers are currently engaged in a wide-ranging and deep exploration of how they can develop a "way into the future'. Not only is this 'way into the future' taking account of current realities within the Congregation, it is also engaging with the call of the future as this reveals itself across the experience of Brothers and colleagues in mission around the world.

Following a methodology broadly outlined in William Bridges work, Managing Transitions (2007), a Core Team consisting of the Congregation Leadership Team, David Gibson, Tim Leyland and Donal Leader, has developed a process that will lead to the development of an agreed proposition outlining a "way into the future'. Five Spark Groups tasked with researching and validating the elements to be included into this proposition have been at work since October 2011.

In October 2012 the worldwide leadership groups from the various provinces of the Congregation will meet to consider the proposition, "A Way Into the Future" as developed by the Core Team and the Spark Groups. The process sees the 'reading of the signs of the times', endorsed by Vatican II and informed by spiritual discernment, as a key framework for the development of 'a way into the future' for the Christian Brothers.

Since February 2012 the CLT has issued monthly reflections that will assist all who are inspired by Edmund Rice's vision of mission in engaging with the process. These reflections will help us to atune our hearts and minds to the spirituality informing 'a way into the future'. These reflections following below.

From Dublin we are to travel to Waterford and Callan to join the celebrations for Edmund’s 250th birth anniversary.
